The sound you’re hearing right now is that of Cumberbitches and Hiddlestoners clashing heavily, after it was announced that Tom Hiddleston would replace Benedict Cumberbatch in Guillermo Del Toro’s next film Crimson Peak.
Cumberbatch, who was originally cast in Del Toro’s haunted house thriller, left the project last month citing scheduling conflicts as his reason for departure, leaving the currently-unknown role up for grabs. Now, though, it seems that Hiddleston has taken it up and will join the rest of the cast, including Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska and Charlie Hunnam, for the start of shooting in January 2014.
Both Hiddleston and Cumberbatch are huge fan favourites, with the former’s role as Loki in the Thor and Avengers movies, and the latter’s highly-regarded roles in Sherlock and this year’s Star Trek Into Darkness. Following in the tradition of extravagant names based on their idols – see also: Beliebers, Directioners, Twi-hards etc – their respective fans have dubbed themselves Hiddlestoners and Cumberbitches. Pretty extravagant titles there, especially that last one – surely they missed a trick with not deciding on CuCumbers? You heard it here, folks.
Crimson Peak, currently being prepped by Legendary Studios and Universal as part of their new multi-film deal, is aiming for a 2015 release. And seeing how it’s a Del Toro picture, you have every reason to already be excited.
