Well, this is unexpected.Boss 2 2012 Gallery

Joining action stars Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford, Wesley Snipes and Antonio Banderas in The Expendables 3 is… Kelsey Grammer.

That’s right, Dr. Frasier Crane from classic sitcoms Cheers and Frasier is going up against the big boys in the second sequel to the hit 2010 action ensemble and the follow-up to the bonkers-but-brilliant 2012 sequel.

Of course the 58-year-old actor, also best known for voicing Sideshow Bob on The Simpsons, might not be the first person you’d think of to fire heavy machinery toward the bad guys. But given his popularity on said sitcoms, his high respect within the industry and his portrayal of the popular Hank McCoy/Beast being undoubtedly the best thing about X-Men: The Last Stand, it should be the most interesting addition to this sequel for quite some time. Plus, he has a role in another 2014 summer blockbuster – Transformers: Age of Extinction – so if all goes to plan then Kelsey Grammer should be one of the most dominant figures of the season!

Perhaps even more surprisingly, Grammer’s role of ex-mercenary Bonaparte, who is to be an ally of the lead group of mercenaries led by Stallone’s Barney Ross, was originally offered to Nicolas Cage. Of course he turned it down for whatever reason, so unfortunately Cage’s hardcore fan base will have to lament the insane performance he will have inevitably given. But hopefully Grammer’s casting in his stead will more than make up for the loss.

With Patrick Hughes directing, The Expendables 3 is shooting right now with a summer 2014 release date fixed in stone. However, if any changes come about, you’ll be the first to know.
