Almost two weeks since Charlie Hunnam dropped out of the Christian Grey role in the forthcoming adaptation ofjamie-dornan-for-zara-spring-2011-designscene-net-12 Fifty Shades of Grey, a swift replacement has been added to ensure the film can go ahead as planned.

Jamie Dornan is going to be the new name that screaming fan-girls will faint over, joining Dakota Johnson and Jennifer Ehle in director Sam Taylor-Johnson’s movie, based off an adapted screenplay by Kelly Marcel.

Dornan’s big-screen credits may be limited thus far, including the likes of Marie Antoinette and Shadows in the Sun, but the Northern Irish actor is best known for his roles in television land. His participation as The Huntsman/Sheriff Graham Humbert in hit TV series Once Upon A Time has earned him praise, and his co-lead role opposite Gillian Anderson in the BBC’s crime drama The Fall has been something of a small success.

However, portraying Christian Grey will be his ticket into the big leagues, a prospect that proved too daunting for Hunnam and subsequently led to Dornan’s hiring. Here’s hoping that he actually lasts in the role, both physically and mentally.

Based on the worldwide bestseller by EL James, Fifty Shades of Grey sees the big screen version of the infamous relationship between naïve college student Anastasia Steele (Johnson) and the tormented billionaire Christian Grey (Dornan). Needless to say, things get pretty “tied up” from there [insert drum rimshot sound effect here, and pause for canned laughter].

The movie is still on track to begin filming at the beginning of November, with an August 2014 release date still pencilled in. Women, get excited. Men, don’t forget to bring your iPods.
