WHAT’S IT ABOUT?

Aspiring comedian Kumail (Nanjiani) meets Emily (Kazan) after one of his sets, and they soon start dating. However, the expectations of Kumail’s traditional Muslim family soon drive a stake into their budding relationship, which is made even more uncertain when Emily contracts a mysterious illness and put into a medically-induced coma. Kumail must now navigate the medical crisis with Emily parents, Terry (Romano) and Beth (Hunter), as well as try and find a way to balance both his family and his heart…

IN ONE SENTENCE, WHY SHOULD YOU BE EXCITED?

The Big Sick is not just a heartfelt and very funny romantic-comedy, but it’s also a sweet re-enactment of star and co-writer Kumail Nanjiani’s real-life courtship with his now-wife, the movie’s co-writer Emily V. Gordon.
