WHAT’S IT ABOUT?

In Berlin, 1940, middle-aged working-class couple Anna (Thompson) and Otto Quangel (Gleeson) are trying their hardest to ride out the current war with Europe. However, when their son is killed in battle, they finally decide to oppose the Nazi rule and create several postcards with anti-Nazi slogans designed to persuade others to resist Hitler’s forces. This of course attracts the attention of some irate Nazi soldiers, and a police detective (Rush) that has been charged with finding the culprits…

IN ONE SENTENCE, WHY SHOULD YOU BE EXCITED?

Emma Thompson and Brendan Gleeson are marvellous and heartbreaking as a couple whose brave resistance in Nazi Germany would not be forgotten long after their time on this Earth.
